How to Upcycle A Cabinet with Geneva Vanderzeil

An almost hobby for this persistent home improver, Geneva Vanderzeil loves breathing new life into old furniture.

In this particular project, she chose something personal. A pre-loved vintage cabinet that had been painted blue by her mother. Let’s see how she “ReLoved” this family heirloom. See how to upcycle wooden furniture from drab to fab!

Preparing the cabinet

Geneva began by removing the broken glass and the existing blue paint. She then sanded the cabinet surface back to a smooth finish, primed to be stained.

Picking a colour to refresh the cabinet’s look and feel

After a poll on her social media pages, her fans helped her choose Old Baltic from the Feast Watson Prooftint range to add some warmth to the vintage piece.

Final touches

Now that the glass had been removed, Geneva needed something to replace it. Instead of simply sourcing a carbon copy, she chose fluted glass to give the cabinet some character. Add in some original hardware and handles and the cabinet has now been “ReLoved” with Feast Watson.
